This four letter sentence, a campaign slogan from DeBeers, changed how the world sees diamond rings forever. In this modern-day culture, an engagement ring is said to be a requirement before finally getting married. It is a tangible sign of the man’s commitment to wed a woman. Culturally-speaking, engagement rings are expected in Western cultures as the family of the bride usually pays for the wedding. The “duty” of the groom is to be able to give an engagement ring worth his love (and sometimes, worth for “show”). Hence, the popularity of diamonds as the precious stone of choice when buying a ring.
And since buying a diamond is going to be expensive, learning about the 4C’s: color, clarity, cut and cart is imperative. For the record, I am married and I DO NOT have an engagement ring. I am still dreaming of getting one in my lifetime and after drooling over hundreds (even thousands) of rings at ApplesofGold.com, I finally decided which one I would want.
It is an antique-etched amethyst and diamond ring in 14k White Gold. I have always wanted to have a birth ring – I was born in February and my birthstone is amethyst (And I love the color purple!). The emerald cut is considered to be one of the most sophisticated cuts in diamonds. It has 26 0.25ctw diamonds surrounding it, and it now retails at USD$425.00 instead of USD$550.00.
