Chronic pain can be debilitating. It does not only cause physical pain but also psychological and mental pain. Imagine having the pain consume you every minute of everyday- you cannot focus on anything else but the pain that sometimes you become forgetful, depressed and even temperamental. Who wouldn’t? You might probably have heard about tramadol- it is the generic form of Ultram, is an analgesic utilized to treat or forbid pain. The usual dose, tramadol 50mg, is enough to treat chronic pain.

Fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and cancer pain are the usual culprits of pain. In cases like those noted, pain management would not be sufficient.
It needs to be noted that tramadol medication is a narcotic. It is a very addictive drug and like opium, it reduces pain, alters mood and behavior, and usually induces sleep or stupor. Narcotic drugs are the most abused prescription drugs as it become habitual and addicting. You need to make sure that you follow the suggested dose of your physician. Since it makes one sleepy, you need to avoid driving a car whenever you take the medicine.
It does appear to possess certain side effects, including anxiety, chills or perspiration, dry mouth, rash, mood swings, heartburn, constipation, somnolence, and so on, but reported side effects are not sufficiently serious to justify suspending use of the drug. Here the side effects which if experienced needs to have emergency treatment:
1. Allergic response, such as problems with respiration, closed throat, swollen lips, tongue or face, or rash
2. Seizures
If you experience these milder symptoms, do not stop taking tramadol and consult with your physician:
1. Vertigo, sleepiness or headache
2. Anxiety, shakiness, nervousness
3. Nausea, vomiting, or constipation
4. Itching, dry mouth or perspiring.
