I am an avid reader. If I had the choice and the money to sustain my hobby, I would be reading book after book as soon as I am done reading one. I am sure most women feel the same. But with the demands on women these days – career and family – it is hard to take time out for oneself. I am extremely grateful I got to buy myself an iPhone a few months ago, it has become virtually glued to my hand because I have discovered I can read e-books all the time – on the train while going to work, while waiting for meetings, in line for doctor appointments, eating alone at lunch.
I can sense that e-books are going to change the economics of the publishing industry. The main driver of this change will be the sudden increase of devices that display electronic books out in the market. There are the smart phones like the Apple iPhone, mainstream readers like the Amazon Kindle, and tablet computing devices like the Apple iPad. These devices are easy to read, easy to carry, and hold libraries of books. Though it might be a loss to the paperback industry, I can sense that it will benefit the reading public and the author too. More books will be sold. When a book costs as much as a latte and is easy to buy, carry, and store, it will be a much easier impulse buy.
Aptara Corp is an ebook publishing company that can convert an existing book in paperback format into an e-book. And this ebook publisher can convert them into different files that can be supported by electronic readers – ALL of them!
