Wavy hair is a beautiful look on any woman. It adds a soft, feminine delicacy to your look whilst at the same time appearing absolutely effortless and natural. It is also a simple process to achieve, and all you need is a pair of straighteners! As straightening your hair can cause heat damage, it is a good idea to invest in a pair of high quality irons. Top of the range are ghd straighteners, which provide advanced ceramic heating irons developed especially to minimise the damage caused to your hair.
To wave your hair with straighteners, first wash and condition it with products appropriate to your hair type. ghd produce a wide range of shampoos and conditioners that cater for different thicknesses and textures of hair, from thick and frizzy to thin and damaged. You may wish to choose a shampoo and conditioner with added heat protection in the formula, especially if you heat style your hair on a regular basis.
Once your hair is washed, towel dry before combing it out with a wide tooth comb. Finger dry with a blow dryer from the roots to the tips. At this stage you may want to add a heat protect or preparation serum to your hair, for example the Texture Lotion for Controlled Styles from ghd. This styling lotion gives your hair a sleek, shiny texture whilst also providing gentle hold, which will help to keep your waves in place. It also protects your hair from the heat, maintaining its moisture and elasticity.
Once your hair is dry, brush it out to remove any knots or tangles and then gather all of your hair save the bottom layer into a bun on the top of your head. Keep the hair in place using a grip or clip. Separate the hair that remains loose into sections, no more than an inch or two wide. Take a section of hair and place your straighteners around it at the root, as close to the scalp as possible. Clasp the straightener shut and flip it 180° before pulling down slowly. After you have covered a certain distance (depending on how far apart you want your waves), flip the straightener the other way and continue to pull down. Continue to flip and pull until you reach the end of the piece of hair. Take this process slowly to ensure the wave holds, but make sure you do it in one continuous movement or your waves may look uneven and harsh.
Repeat the process on the rest of your hair section by section, releasing layers of your hair from the bun as required. When you have waved the entirety of your hair, you can spray on some hairspray like ghd’s Ultimate Hold in order to lock your waves in place. If you style your hair regularly with straighteners or any heat device, make sure to use a heat protection serum like ghd’s Thermal Protectors range on a regular basis to keep damage to a minimum.
