Are you a fan of open source software?
There has been a lot of misconception over whether these programs are legitimate or not. It is software offered free over the internet. It often mimics or works like well known brand names, Adobe Photoshop for instance, but is perfectly legitimate because the code is generated by a bunch of techie geek enthusiasts eager to show how good they are – and they really often better – and share them, for free, to the rest of us. The software usually is sophisticated and reliable; able to do most, if not all, that the prototype can do.
Here are a few examples:
1. FileZilla FTP Client
You can use it to transfer files to a web server. If you own a web site and have it hosted, you can connect to your host thru FileZilla and transfer files using this client. I personally use this all the time.
2. GIMP
GIMP is a photo-editing software, much like Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop can be a bit pricey for other people so GIMP is a great alternative.
3. You Tube Video Downloader
YouTube is a treasure of videos that with this software you can download your favorite YouTube videos in a jiffy. It works on a Mac, Linux or Windows and can be used as an add on to Firefox
Some useful games/utility software:
1. Tower Defense
- A puzzle strategy game
2. FreeMind
- A mapping/organizational/flow char software.
