I have never imagined that the wedding industry here in the country would get this big. When I got married five years ago, it was (in my opinion) big and thriving already. But now it has become its own industry, literally. Wedding photographers are at par with international photographers and are quite in demand for out of the country weddings too. Wedding designers, especially the ones that have great feedback from real brides, are always fully booked. Wedding Dresses have always been one of the highlights in a wedding. After all, the bridal march really is for the bride. She should look radiant! There are new bridal gowns at Boncy Boutique, I noticed that vintage dresses are making a comeback, think 20s to 50s with lace, tulle and headpieces.
Bridesmaid Dresses have taken a clean look with simple lines and an accent like a brooch or a matching headpiece (or bag).I especially like how bridesmaid dresses have gone short and how brides have experimented with lots of color (think rich tones and bright hues, even black has been used!)
Spring/Summer 2010 Prom Dresses deserve a special mention too. I wish I had access to the dresses out these days when I had my prom. Everything just looks fun and comfortable enough for dancing without losing the style and elegance needed for a ball. It also seems prom dresses have been inspired by Latin fashion also, think flamenco dresses.

It has always been hard to shop for clothes, if you are a woman. It is MUCH harder if you belong to the special sizes’ category – petite and plus-sized. I am a plus-sized woman (more like plus plus) and it’s hard for me to find clothes that fit and are still fashionable. Clothes for women of special sizes tend to be more expensive too.
Here are some tips for tall women:
You are classified as tall when the inseam of your pants is 33” and above.
- Avoid too-short skirts.
- Tuck your shirt into pants to define your waist, but only if you don’t have a tummy.
- Feel free to wear horizontal prints and textured fabrics.
- Find a great tailor, or even just a decent one. Sometimes certain items are just too good to not have.
- Wear whatever shoes you like, but flats definitely work with statelier ladies when it comes to not being taller than your date.
- Medium length skirts are your best bet, somewhere between just above the knee and mid-calf.
- High waisted pants and skirts were made for tall women.
- Have fun with tall boots! Your height makes them look fantastic!
Here is a complete list of women’s essential wardrobe that every woman must have, at least one of each:
Jeans
Casual Pants
Dressy Pants
Long Skirts
Mini Skirts
Shirts
Blouses
T-Shirts
Sweaters
Casual Dresses
Cocktail Dreses
Formal Dresses
Career Dresses
For plus sized women here are some tips:
- Dress mono chromatically.
- Wear vertical stripes.
- Get a professional bra fitting.
- Add high heels.
- Try shopping at a store that specializes in plus size clothing rather than a store that "sizes up" their standard size 6.
- Skip the low-rise pants.
- Find a great tailor.
Guess what the hundreds of women who went to the recently concluded Oscars and Emmy’s wore in common? I am willing to bet my life on one – Spanx.
Gwyneth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey and Jessica Alba, among the many, all swear by high-tech power panties. And they are not your usual grandmother’s girdles. Spanx are easy to wiggle into, provided that you buy the correct size (they have sizes from A to G). It also has a cotton crotch, making it healthier to fight off yeast infections due to too-tight clothing. While it takes a while to get used to, spanx has been designed to replace everyday normal underwear. Give it two weeks and you will forget you ever wear normal panties.
Celebrity Oprah Winfrey was once quoted as saying on her show, “Spanx really changed the way I wore clothes. … I’ve given up panties” and Gwyneth Paltrow used them after she gave birth. It easily shaves off 2-10 pounds and eliminates the “muffin top”. It helps that Spanx comes in all shapes and sizes – from the neck down to your leg – as some people would lovingly joke about it.
It truly has a mark of a genius as its owner and maker, Sara Blakely, simply cut off her control tights because she wanted to use open-toed sandals with the cream-colored trousers. After quality control sheer tight fabrics, packaging and endorsements from high-profile celebrities who “swear” by it, Spanx remains to be the top seller in underwear shapers in all boutiques across the nation.
Blakely also had the foresight to come out with different versions of the modern girdle. From sheer, opaque, to evening, summer, everyday and even maternity wear, Spanx has it all!
For one who need control on her torso and hips, the Spanx Higher Power is a great choice:
Powerful shaping panties with phenomenal impact. The perfect solution for looking svelte under an evening dress or everyday outfit.
Key Points:
Slight Sheen Finish
Strong Control Level
For everyday use, you can use Spanx Power Panties:
Shaping panties to give you a washboard stomach and toned bottom without having to spend hours at the gym.
Key Points:
Matte Finish
Cotton Gusset
Strong Control Level
I bought some new underwear at Victoria’s secret a few weeks ago and I am expecting to have them in the first week of March. I would need safe diet pills though to make sure I will look as sexy as the models in the picture!
I love the designs I got though – it makes me motivated enough to try and finally lose weight!
Who would not want to have a piece of this proud collection? I am pretty sure Pinoys overseas are asking for these jackets as soon as the news came out.
didas’ much-coveted Philippine Range collection is back, featuring jackets (P3,295), shirts (P1,459) and messenger bags (P1,459) in the iconic red, blue, white and yellow of the Philippine flag.
John Lloyd Cruz in the Adidas Philippine Range jacket, P3,295.
Available in Adidas stores starting February 13, the collection has details reminiscent of the Philippine flag such as three stars and a sun and stylized Philippine seals, plus the letters PH in yellow. For premium performance look, the blue, red and white are rendered in color blocks with touches of yellow. The collection is part of the training range of the Adidas sports performance line.
Of course, John Lloyd Cruz sporting it adds to its appeal too.
I personally love this jacket ((P 3,600+). Photo snagged from here. Do you think I will be inspired to lose weight or even work out and drink weight loss drinks when I get the jacket?
Perhaps the biggest night in any girl’s high school life is her prom. School council members debate and vote on prom themes as early as the start of classes and students, particularly the teenage ladies, pore over countless of magazines, try hundreds of dresses and go on crash diets to make sure they look perfect for what they deem as "the" night of their high school life.
The search for the perfect prom dress is harder than finding the perfect date for the prom, they say. But in truth, shopping for the perfect prom dress is relatively easy, if you follow these tips:
1. Find and determine your budget. More importantly, start saving as early as possible. Be sure to allow extra cash for small accessories like hair clips, pantyhose, and make-up.
2. Find inspiration – it can be from magazines, TV shows or online. Take note you do not need to buy every single fashion magazine in the market. Online finds have larger ranges and are free.
3. Start looking early. You don’t want to hit the stores after they’ve been ravaged by every other teenagers in search of the perfect frock.
4. Know what works for you, and assess your body type. Do not simply go with a dress that is going with the current trend. Make sure the dress you choose befits your body type, speaks your personality and is something you would be comfortable in (remember you will be dancing!). If you are in a slump on what will do, that’s when looking early will be to your advantage. Try everything, and I mean everything! You might be surprised that the dress you have never considered is actually the one for you!
What are the current trends for prom dresses?
2010 trends speak of old Hollywood glamour, dazzling details and vivid colors. As with old Hollywood glam, dresses are now smooth satin sheaths, and Latin-styled trains and ruffles. It focuses more on the 1960s, with the length inspired by the a-line or cocktail length skirts of Jackie O. So you would notice that Short prom dresses are taking up a storm on stores and into the dance floor of prom nights.
One thing that is also prominent is vivid prints on dresses, sexy lines with a flamenco touch. Check out these Tony Bowls prom dresses:
Looking at all these very nice dresses makes me wish to relive prom night. Fashion these days are so much better! The choices and possibilities are endless.
Enjoy your prom!
Women often need to invest on at least a piece or two of nice evening wear. You will never know when the next office party, date with your special someone or evening function will be. The key here is to invest on classic pieces (like, say, the classic LBD – little black dress) and use accessories and outer cloth pieces to have different looks.
Here are some classic pieces in Roman Originals that will look great with few accessories. Remember, sometimes less is more!
Evening dresses can be short like these:
While they can also be long ones. Usually, attire will be labelled as “formal” or “long gown” for these:
Remember that evening wear need not be dresses all the time, you can have and should mix and match tops and skirts!
Here are some pieces that will help you get more looks:
* Cashmere Shawl
* Evening Gloves
* Evening Handbags
* Hair Accessories
* Handbags
* Hosiery
* Silk Scarf
* Women’s Closed-toed Shoes
* Women’s Dress Shoes
* Bracelets
* Earrings
* Necklaces
One tip on using earrings, evaluate your outfit – should it be elegant or fun? Then decide whether to use studs or drop earrings. While closed toe shoes are the norm for evening wear, sexy sandals and heels are now accepted. Go with gloves to the opera, a debutante ball or the Ascot races.
Carry a beaded bag or purse large enough to hold business cards, keys, cash and lipstick.
Turquoise was selected as the color of 2010 by Pantone, a company that supplies and tracks color for fashion and home decor, among other industries. Fashion insiders agreed the color is on the rise.
Turquoise has instantly brought to mind images of vacation, travel and the tropical blue sea – making travel the big goal for most people in 2010.
Travel is on one of our wish lists this year and I am determined to make us travel with cold, hard-earned cash and not through cash advance benefits I can get from the husband’s company.
Turquoise Tips:
_Lilly Pulitzer’s Schoenborn calls it a "buy now, wear anywhere color" because in cooler months it pairs with black and navy, and in the spring and summer it can be worn with white or coral.
_In the home, introduce turquoise through paint, Moss advises. Paint the walls of a room — or just one — or even the ceiling, she says. Painting the insides of bookshelves will give a pop.
_Moss also likes turquoise as the piping on a white couch or as a lampshade or tableskirt.
_Textile quality is an issue with turquoise, says Hilfiger. It can be very luxe looking in the right fabric, but it risks looking cheap in a bad one.
_Pantone’s Eiseman sees it as a potential complement to the yellow-greens that have recently been popular.
_If the idea of turquoise eye makeup is too scary, Eiseman says you’ll get the same effect with a darker teal.
