While I am very much satisfied with my pink Dell Inspiron 1525, there are times when I think I should get a new one – as girly as my current pink laptop, but faster and operating on Windows 7. G (that’s my laptop’s name!) is a Custom Laptop I ordered from Dell and at that time, it was best deal out there. Now, she probably would retail around $450 (I got her for $700).
A Custom Computer has always been preferred by my husband too. He says it allows consumers to pick certain features they need (like faster memory, a bigger hard drive, an advanced video card, etc) without having to fork out such a huge amount of money. Custom Computers are now being offered by most manufacturers too. You get to be charged a certain fee and it takes a longer time to get processed and shipped, but most of those who have tried it have said it was worth the wait.
Custom Laptops can also be availed of nowadays. When I ordered G, it was only Dell who was offering custom made laptops so I was left with no option.
We are all lucky to live in a very technologically-advanced world these days. Everything can be done online, we can do things with a flicker of the remote. For women, we can shop online, multitask, and even have the luck to enjoy gadgets that are fashionable and hip!
Who says you can’t merge technology and functionality with fashion?
Now you can!
We used to think of laptops as boxy and heavy, now with the advent of netbooks, most of what you see career women tote are fashionable netbooks in very feminine colors, with matching mouse pads to boot. The purchase of a laptop is entirely dependent on the user’s preference. Style would always be included in a woman’s choice.
Career women always on the go and use it mainly for communication (e-mail, Skype and messengers) with officemates and clients might just need a very light laptop with internet functionality. Artists, graphic designers and those involved with photography might need one with more hard disk (HD) space, memory (RAM), and a nice video card. Students need one with enough space for MS Professional/Basic.
The minimum specifications of your laptop should include:
- Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity
- 2 to 4 USB 2.0 ports
- 2 hours battery life
- 512MB memory
- 60GB hard drive capacity
- Full one year warranty
Consider what you are going to use it for and then go from there. Also consider your budget. Don’t pay too much for a laptop with features you will never actually use. And of course, unless you’re a millionaire, your budget probably would be limited. Shop around. Visit as many computer shops as you can. You must learn to compare prices or you would later feel that you have been ripped off with your purchase.Learn to read and trust reviews. But don’t read just one review. You’ll never know because it might be a sponsored review or that the reviewer was actually biased. Read at least three reviews for a specific laptop model that you want. And consider only the reviews from reputable and trusted websites and publications.
Computers are becoming an indispensable part of our day to day life. Whether you are a professional or whether you work from home or your office, each and every one of us is in the need of a computer all the time. Laptops have also become very important because they are giving us the facility to move around and at the same time be able to be connected.
Toshiba laptops have always had a good reputation for being the sturdiest laptops in the market, with customer feedback saying their Toshiba laptops last from six years and up. Toshiba laptops can be up to 50% more expensive than the cheapest models on the market with the same processor, RAM and so on, simply due to the cost of the better build quality and having to pay Japanese workers’ salaries. But if you think about the price you will pay with the years of service it will give to you, consider yourself more than paid.

I never thought I would say this but I am officially an iPhone convert! I was never really interested in getting one, being as technically-challenged that I am. But I stumbled upon a deal I could not resist (It was so cheap!) that I was an iPhone owner before I knew it.
Take note, it took me more than a month to even install apps on it. I didn’t have the patience to configure settings (this was a jailbroken phone so everything is different). But when I did, everything just became more exciting! I finally decided to sit on it and accomplish everything since I am now able to go online even when outside the house! (My iPhone was my lifesaver when I had to endure sitting for 4 hours in the salon! More on that on the next posts).
While games and social networking apps remain to be the most used and download apps for the iPhone (Facebook being number 1, instead of Google – can you imagine?), there are specific applications for lifestyle, books, music, health and you guessed it right – fashion!
Sex and the City: Carrie’s Closet
What this iPhone app can do for you is help you organize your closet by allowing you to take pictures of your wardrobe and ensembles. You can then share your looks/outfits with your friends, listen to music from the “Sex and the City” soundtrack, browse photos and watch video clips. Free.
With the Style.com iPhone app, you can view the latest runway shows from Paris, Milan and New York. It’s a library of still photographs from the most recent runway shows!! Love it! Free
The Fashion Sense iPhone app is like having your own personal stylist. You’ll learn how to dress for your specific body shape, making shopping for outfits easier. $1.99.
Lucky at Your Service Digital Concierge
Your favorite magazine is now on the palm of your hands – free. Use it to browse shoes featured in Lucky magazine and find your favorite pairs in a store near you. If you love the Lucky Shoe Guide, you’re going to love the Lucky at Your Service Digital Concierge iPhone application. Free.
Here are some fashion apps for your iPhone, free! The iPhone has it all, I would not be surprised if they would come up with apps for modern furniture like IKEA and Pottery Barn! I have this renewed interest in the iPhone since officially today, I have one! I never thought I would get one, but I did, thanks to a friend!
Ok, so I’m late blogging about the very much publicized iPad – I am pretty sure all of you have heard it at some point. I am just NOT getting all the hype though. It has all the features of the iTouch – it just got bigger, so you can read books easier. Didn’t they launch it to rival Amazon’s Kindle? It is just better because you are ultimately carrying a virtual computer, provided it has access to available internet. Tell me ONE thing that is has that isn’t really just a modified feature of the iPhone and iTouch.
I am not against it, I do not hate it – I really just don’t understand the hype. But I have always been late with the trends, with the ps3, wii, xbox and iphone, I never really had time to appreciate up until the next new one came along.
If you dearly beloved boys and men who will always be boys in your Christmas gift list, try giving them video games. Anybody would love a gaming console!
I looked the top 5 gaming consoles of the year and it turned out to be:
1. The playstation portable otherwise known as the PSP:
The console itself and available add-ons, mean that it can have; a camera, digital TV receiver, web browser and GPS, as well as playing games with better graphics than any other comparable handheld device.
2. The xbox 360 consoles
It is important to remember that the Xbox 360 is the oldest of the three main seventh generation gaming systems. As well as being launched earlier than the PS3, the Xbox 360 is also considerably cheaper.
3. Nintendo DS Lite
4. The playstation consoles, the latest being Playstation 3 (PS3)
If you look at the potential of the Playstation 3 it has a clear edge on its competitors, with; both Blu-ray and HD DVD compatibility, up to 80GB of memory and PSP link-up
5. A clear favorite among the nintendo consoles, Nintendo Wii
Christmas is fast approaching and I still do not have one clear item that stands out among my wish lists as the item I want to receive from Santa this Christmas! It isn’t helping that what I want are items that aren’t necessarily cheap either.
You would be surprised how geeky the things I want are – no more wish lists of bags, shoes and make-up because guess what? I already bought them for myself! So I really just want an upgrade from my current desktop computer. I am sure there are discount computer accessories I can find – “Santa” only needs to assemble them.
Other than that:
- I really want a spanking new, good quality point and shoot camera. It is a toss up between Canon’s SD990 and Panasonic’s LX3. Eventhough I have the dSLR, nothing beats the ease and portability of a point and shoot camera!
- I want a printer. Because I want to be able to print whenever I like it!
- I want an iTouch. or the new iPod Nano.
- I want a Kindle!
Here is another option besides the FLIP video I blogged about earlier – the new JVC Picsio Pocket Camera & HD Video. It’s the latest pocket-sized camcorder to hit the market.

That’s all.
- Unique among pocket Cams, GC-FM1 offers image stabilization to shoot images with minimal camera-shake.

A Vivienne Tam limited edition HP notebook – what the geeky fashionista would wish for this holiday season.
The HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition is a combination of striking fashion sense (red with gleaming pink peonies – patterned by Vivienne from a floral print fabric) and technology that is adept with the times. Incidentally, the mini notebook has the Chinese symbol that means double happiness.
I am sure there will be a lot of HP laptop coupons that will be coming out in the coming weeks so many women can put this on their wishlist (me included!)
Here is how it looks like when carried – it seems like you are carrying a clutch bag right?
