These are what I use to maintain my curly hair. I have been warned by my stylist that I need to make sure my hair never dries out because it’s thin and fine and prone to breakages.
I invested on the line of L’Oreal Elseve Re-Nutrition and they have been great in keeping my hair nourished. I want to color my hair before the month ends and I want to make sure my ends are not dried out!
The Re-Nutrition range contains a shampoo, a conditioner, a mask, and day & night serums. Its primary ingredient is Royal Jelly which is rich in Vit. B and is said to replenish and nourish dry or dried out hair. Its more expensive compared to other hair products but its surely worth it!
I am just using the Nourishing Leave In Fluid (Day) which costs around 345Php. I apply it when my hair is damp and when I go out, I apply anti-frizz serum on some parts of my hair.I am taking care of my hair now since we have female baldness on my mom’s side of the family so I’d rather take care of my hair than buy the best weight loss pills in the market.
I love having my hair curled. It still is on the growing-in-me-stage, where sometimes I hate it, sometimes I love it, but most of the time, I love it. I do not regret it, it’s just that my bangs are at this awkward length. Maybe in about six weeks, it will grow out. In the meantime, the usual shampoo for thinning hair that sits in our bathroom is now replaced with special products for curly/dry/damaged hair. Yes, I am taking care of my hair this time and won’t let it dry out. I want to have it tinted soon.
I have frizzy AND curly hair so I need a volumizer and deep conditioner with anti-frizz.
Unlike your limp-tressed sisters who should stay away from products that weigh down their hair, you need a few products to keep frizz and dryness in check:
Creamy shampoos Creamy shampoos are a better bet than clarifying (or clear) shampoos.
Two types of conditioners You simply cannot overcondition frizzy hair. You need a heavy conditioner for use every time you wash your hair, and a deep conditioner for use once a week.
Smoothing cream and alcohol-free gel From the minute you step out of the shower, you need to coat the cuticle so it locks out moisture. In the book ‘Confessions of a Beauty Editor,’ author Linda Wells suggests a one-two-punch: 2 parts cream for 1 part gel (yes, you have to buy the products separately). A walnut-sized amount will do you. Simply rub together then palm the mixture from mid-shaft down. Comb the product throughout all of your hair with a wide-toothed comb.
Styling cream Enhance your curls with a cream created for curly hair. Rub it in and let hair airdry.
Style serum Warm up a couple drops of this in your hands and palm over dry, frizzy curls. The serum will solve your frizz problems.
Put Away the Blow Dryer
To combat the frizzies, refrain from blowing hair dry. Adding heat to air only increases the problem. Instead, finger-comb hair, letting curls air-dry. (Luckily, because your hair tends to be dry, so you don’t need to wash hair more than a couple times a week). If you must use a blow dryer, use a diffuser and dry by cupping hair with your hands from below (never scrunch curls, you’ll invite frizz). One tip we learned from a curly haired friend: Don’t rub hair dry with a towel, instead squeeze moisture out with paper towels.
The Less You Mess, the Better
The more you play with your curls, blow drying them, scrunching them, etc, the better chances you’ll get frizz. You can style hair by twisting curls around your finger, letting them lay to air dry.
It is true, one’s hair is one’s crowning glory. What happens if there is none of it though? While baldness occurs more often in men than women, there have been pattern baldness (thinning hair on forehead) for women with diseases, sometimes genetics play a role, and sometimes, even the hair products used. Here are a couple of hair loss preventions you might want to keep in mind:
Self-care remedy tips for hair loss:
- Massage the scalp with 2-3 drops of essential oil or a good vegetable oil. Massage well into the scalp so that the oil gets into deep roots of hair. Wrap the hair in plastic wrap and place a warm towel around it. Leave it for 2 to three hours or overnight. Shampoo the hair with a mild shampoo. Practicing this at regular basis would help your hair pores get rejuvenated.
- Eat a handful of white sesame seeds every morning. One handful of these small seeds contains about 1,200 mg. of calcium and magnesium to ignite the required nourishments of your scalp not to loose hair.
- Take some yogurt everyday (unless you are allergic to milk).
- Rinse hair with a mix of apple cider vinegar tea to help hair grow.
- Mix little warmer castor and almond oil and massage over scalp at least once a week.
- Grind lime seeds and black pepper in equal number in some water and apply on the scalp at regular intervals.
- Scrub the bald portion with onions till it becomes red. Then applying honey, scrub the scalp once a day.
- Massage almond oil on scalp 2 to 3 times a day. Further hair loss will stop by doing this practice.
- Massage coconut milk or Aloe Vera gel into the scalp and hair. Leave it for ½ hour, and then rinse with warm water. Repeat 3 times a week.
- Massage honey with egg yolk into the scalp and hair. Leave for a 1/2 hour, then rinse to prevent hair loss.
If you are thinking of getting a digital perm, ask anybody and they will tell you only one thing: “Go to Tony and Jackey.” Ever since we saw the invasion of lovely Korean women in TV with soft, bouncy curls and Hollywood female celebrities donning curls, curls became the new “sexy hair.” Perms are not as dangerous as before too, ever since they went digital. You can learn more about it in this post.
According to Wikipedia:
“A digital perm is a perm which uses hot rods with the temperature regulated by a machine, which has a digital display, hence the name. However, the process of the perm is quite analogous. The name “Digital Perm” is also copyrighted by a Japanese company, PAIMORE Co., Ltd.[1] Hair stylists usually call it a “hot perm”, but it is commonly known as a “digital perm”.”
I had my hair permed and according to my stylist, digital perm relaxes into waves in 4-6 weeks. So it is a no-no to have it brushed. It will also frizz more if you brush it. (You can say I havent brushed my hair in 3 weeks). I originally wanted the nice wavy pictures I see on magazines and TV and he told me that in time it will be like that, but it will be a waste of money if I have it done the way I like it.
I had my perm done in 4 hours and had the Korean stylist doing everything for me, with 2 helpers giving him what he needs. My hair was first shampooed, blow dried and then cut. He cut my hair when it was dry. Then it was treated because according to him, it was dry, brittle and thin. After that, my hair was coated with color (hair manicure), rinsed off – then set into curls and into the digital perming machine. It was treated after and voila, curly sue hair!
Blow-dryers, flat irons, hair dye, and even an innocent brush can stretch and break your hair strands. If you want to do some damage control to your hair before doing anything drastic with it, you might consider following these steps. (I do better with hair damage control than with bad credit reports, so trust me on this)
- Let your hair air-dry. Did you know the heat from a blow-dryer makes your hair more pliable? It softens the keratin in the hair’s core, and sucks out the moisture during the process. They key here is to get our as much water as you can before you start blowdrying. You might want to wait until your hair is two-thirds dry before beginning.
- Shampoo every other day – at most. Dermatologists love to point out that the natural oils of the scalp are what keeps hair looking shiny and healthy – and washing everyday just sends those oils down the drain. It may be impossible for some, so use the right shampoo in the right way. (More tips on that later)/
- Stop coloring your hair (I hear a collective “WHAAAAAT?” from my readers now). If that is close to impossible, try not to overprocess the ends of your hair.
- Get a trim every three weeks. If not, once a week, apply a deep conditioner. It’s cheaper and more convenient to camouflage the damage and that is where deep conditioning comes in. Formulas with glycerin, panthenol, or amino acids can penetrate the hair’s cuticle, filling in area weakened by the heat or chemicals.
Curls are establishing a comeback these days. Curls give hair volume, character, and even drama, making you an instant head-turner.
But it all ends there. Lest you think curly hair is low-maintenance, think again. Without proper hair care, it can turn undesirably thick, frizzy, and rebellious. It can get quite expensive too. Maybe that is why there is still of women who go for hair straightening treatments.
If you still would want to go with those wild sexy curls, make sure you invest on good hair care product.
