BRONZE, SILVER and GOLD, welcome back!
I didn’t notice that gold accessories was in fashion again! But it seems everything in silver, bronze and gold has made a comeback! I have a friend who has a trademark fashion sense about it and it really looks great on her. Few can pull it off without being tacky.
It reminds me of the gold coins I want to invest on. While gold has invaded the fashion scene, it also has made its mark in the financial market. While most people is now shying away from investing on stocks and bonds, there has been an increased demand for gold bullion or coins from the US Gold Bureau. It seems that it has proven its value since it hasn’t been known to depreciate ever since. If you remember correctly, gold has been used to trade, barter and gauge one’s wealth even!
It has been customary in some countries that couples do not formally announce they are getting married and are planning the wedding without the men giving engagement rings to the women. How many women actually wait forever to get “the” ring? I could just imagine how much pressure the men feel on setting out to find “the” ring – it should be perfect!
While wedding bands or rings are preferred to be simple, engagement rings have always been expected to have diamonds in it. Most women I know even prefer diamond solitaires. When buying online, consider getting your ring from Danforth Diamonds. All their engagement rings are solid and never hollow.
See what they have to offer:

I have yet to invest on jewelry. The only piece of jewelry I own is a heirloom inherited from my maternal grandmother, which I plan to never sell so I can have cash for gold. That piece of jewelry will be handed over to my daughter who will have instructions to hand it over to her daughter when the time comes.
I am not against the idea to sell jewelry. In fact, I think it a great idea. Jewelry is made of gold and do you remember how gold was used as a measure of one’s wealth back in ancient Roman times? The idea to sell gold coins has been used for bartering by merchants, when there was no currency to speak of between countries and that everything used coins – pure silver or pure gold! Can you imagine its worth back then? If it was being done before, it is no surprise that it is also being done today, with pawnshops situated strategically in every city. I know there are people who pawn their jewelry temporarily if they are short on cash, and just claim it when they have the money back. It is a great way to raise cash without having to get into too much debt. Jewelry can make a good collateral.

In 2009, the hit Broadway musical Nine was released as a film adaptation. Nominated for several Academy Awards, the musical features stunning costumes and fabulous jewelry. Chopard, the famous Swiss luxury watchmaker and jeweler, has enjoyed a tight relationship with the cinematic community. Chopard not only creates beautiful watches and jewelry for a solid star clientele, but it is the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival.
Chopard teamed up with the design team for Nine and came up with a unique and special collection of radiant jewelry for the film. The film focuses on the life of Guido Contini, a world famous film director, and his relationships with the women in his life. The women include Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson, and Sophia Loren. With such bright stars, it was important to Chopard to create a unique look and feel for the jewelry of each of the characters.
The Haute Joaillerie collection created for the movie is made up of stunning diamond bracelets, delicate diamond necklaces, chokers, pendants, and pearl and diamond earrings and rings. The stunning collection can be viewed on Chopard’s website.
Chopard jewelry also appeared at the premier for Nine. Many celebrities sparkled on the red carpet with pieces from Chopard. The jewelry from the film was presented in display cases at the premier, and the cast appeared wearing the designer jewelry as well. Fergie appeared with a thick diamond bracelet and a belt encrusted with diamonds. Goldie Hawn and daughter Kate Hudson appeared on the red carpet sporting Chopard, and Penelope Cruz showed off a dazzling pair of Chopard chandelier earrings.
Chopard hopes to continue its close relationships with the cinematic industry and if the stunning collection from Nine is any indication, there will be more film based collections appearing in the future.
She’s engaged!
And I am singing a theme song from a James Bond movie in my head for quite awhile. I just received the best news that my friend was finally engaged and the prize she gets for waiting for five years for a proposal was a diamond engagement ring. And it’s not just any diamond ring, it came from the Richmond Jewelry Store.
Richmond Diamonds are known to have the most tasteful collection of Richmond Diamond Engagement Rings, having guidelines on cut, clarity, carat and color. Richmond Watches are also sold in the Richmond Watch Store (think Concord, Movado and Accutron) and one of my biggest dreams is to own a pair of diamond studs.
Jewelry is a wise investment and I recommend every woman own a complete set of at least one jewelry (gold or diamonds) in her lifetime. They make great heirloom pieces as well, not to mention their resell values never depreciate, unlike bags and shoes!
Women these days are lucky, they have so many options on accessories ever since companies started coming out with great fashion designer jewelry. Sometimes, you cannot even tell what’s real from real anymore, and women work it to their advantage.
Just look at these faux sapphire earrings from Holsted Jewelers. The details and craftsmanship are so fine even a jeweler would have a hard time telling it’s not real!
I am not saying that one should not invest anymore, but if you do not have the money for it, there is always a means to get the look you want for less. It’s how you carry yourself that’s important.
One of my goals this year is to invest on something womanly – it can either be a designer bag or jewellery. It can also be something vain such as getting a laser treatment on my armpits. As early as now, I am leaning towards getting fine gold jewellery for towards the end of the year. That should make me motivated enough to curb useless spending.
Why jewellery? It is something I personally don’t see depreciating in value in the near future, and I want something I can pass on to my daughter when the time comes. The question is – what should I get first? White gold or yellow gold?
I might get a set that contains a mix of both, similar to my wedding ring which has yellow and white gold bands together. Or maybe one that has stones in it. I have seen a lot of amazing designs at Compton and WoodHouse!

The Delightful Duo ring is a perfect example that it can mix, and it understatedly elegant if they were:
It is a nine-carat yellow and white gold ring, set with 5 single-cut diamonds.
And since I was just talking about the red carpet fashion at the recently concluded Golden Globe awards, I might as well give you a lowdown on what jewelry the stars wore
- "Mad Men" star January Jones wore an asymmetrical black wool gown by Lanvin (check out that cutout side!) and black satin "Wagner" heels by Brian Atwood. The big finish? One million dollars worth of Neil Lane diamonds!
- Penelope Cruz chose a saucy off-shoulder black dress with sheer, beaded top by Giorgio Armani Prive. The star also reportedly was sporting 69 carats of Chopard diamonds. Lucky girl!
- "House" actress Olivia Wilde wears a plunge-front gunmetal Gucci dress and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.
House’s Olivia Wilde is auctioning off the Gucci dress she wore to Sunday’s Golden Globes; all proceeds will go to Haitian relief.
